“THE TOWN THAT DROVE AWAY” AWARDED IN ITALY
The film by Grzegorz Piekarski and Natalia Pietsch has received the Asja Award at the Cinemambiente Torino festival in Italy.
Cinemambiente Torino, established in 1998, is an international environmental film festival held every year in Turin, Italy. Its primary aim is to showcase and promote films and video clips addressing themes related to the natural environment, society, and culture. The festival stands as a key event for environmental cinema in Italy and is considered one of the most significant of its kind worldwide. Beyond film screenings, CinemAmbiente is committed to raising ecological awareness through various initiatives and accompanying events.
The Town That Drove Away by Grzegorz Piekarski and Natalia Pietsch is set in the historic village of Hasankeyf. This Kurdish settlement is relocated following plans to construct a dam. The raw beauty of the Anatolian landscape frames demolished buildings – a site of a political game that demands obedience and submission. When everything disappears, only a bitter and disquieting sense of dignity will remain.
