He was born in Iceland on 4th January 1976. He made his first feature film (Ó)eðli / (un)natural in 1999, without any grants or funding. The project gave him the opportunity to use his skills as an actor to interpret the main role. Haukur also took on the role of producer and director and became on of the few directors in Iceland who have managed to make a film independently. His second film in 2003, called 1.apríll or April fools, saw him get the support and patronage of one of the fathers of Icelandic cinema, Friðrik Þór Friðriksson. After that he came to Poland to study directing and cinematography at Polish National School in Łódź.
