A HEART-BROKEN CIRCUS
POLISH TITLE: CYRK ZE ZŁAMANYM SERCEM
The circus in Poland is dying. The elder generation of artists passes away, while there is none who may fill in their place as the youth do not find a circus attractive.
The circus life is uncertain. The circus arrival used to be a holiday, used to stir a common joy and eagerness of people, now it meets with indifference or even anger as it means turmoil and confusion. The former world of stars, spectacular acrobatics and long training dissolves losing a battle with a tv screen and virtual reality.
The documentary registers one day of a small traveling circus “Bojaro” since a moment of its arrival to a village till the final evening spectacle. It is a picture of a struggle for survival of a traditionally organized entity who has troubles with finding its place in the new reality and cannot reach the modern audience. It shows a drama of constant, prolonged waiting for a viewer; a waiting that is a part of the circus experience each day before the spectacle begins.
